Maine-Mester (May Term)
3-week summer programs designed for college students.
May 12 - June 1st, 2019 Open Enrollment
Cost: 3 week program - $5,400 per student
Maine-Mester is a combination of the OceansWide Scuba Science Project and the Marine
Technology and Science Program! With a twist for those of you looking toward a future in the
ocean research, technologies or engineering fields.
Come work with us deep in the heart of Maine’s Acadia National Park and
beyond as we explore coastal Maine and the ocean depths.
During the first week, you will study and dive with our Marine Explorers who will teach you the skills
you will need to know to become a safe and confident diver. Once you are certified as an SDI diver
and have joined the ranks as a Marine Explorer we will plunge you into whole body experience and
an adventure in Ocean Exploration!
There are two parts to the modern Scuba certification course. The book work portion of the course is
a self-study online exercise that you can complete prior to your in-water time with us at Acadia
National Park - Then the in water practical and peer study portion of the course is led by experienced
OceansWide staff, SDI Dive Instructors and Dive Masters.
Upon successful completion of the SDI requirements, you will receive your Advanced Adventure
SCUBA Certification and the ocean will be your new backyard to explore, enjoy and protect.
Week 2 you will spend much of your time in the water to learning skills in exploration, research and
increase your confidence as you become safe and steady divers.
While exploring with us you will experience the excitement of diving coastal Maine. See the flora and
fauna of this robust ecosystem and learn about its strengths as well as its weaknesses. Help
discover ways to increase the health of the ocean, and remove harmful debris so those who rely on
a clean environment can thrive. Become official stewards to keep the ocean wilderness vibrant,
healthy and alive!
Week 3 you will learn to work onboard a research vessel and fly the ROV. From seamanship to
deployment and recovery of research instrumentation. Driving the boat and flying the ROV to
working on deck as we collect samples and explore even deeper into the sea. You will then finalize your projects and present your findings to the researchers either at your home institution or to our staff to demonstrate your new found knowledge.
This program is designed for college freshmen and older, and is open to college-aged individuals 18

Looking forward to seeing you all soon.
