Different Types of ROVs
This Video
Ray Pro III GTO has proven to be ideal for giving
children and adults an opportunity to observe the many
thrilling sights that lie just off shore in Boothbay
Harbor. Fish curiously swim within inches of this nearly
silent submarine and lobsters with their claws at the
ready fearlessly charge in to see why this alien ship
has entered their world, but more likely... we think
they come to see if it is eatable!
VideoRay was kind enough to loan an Explorer series ROV to us for the
2006 OceansWide Summer Program. The program was a great success.

SMALL ROVs
Benthos loaned OceansWide one of their ROVs called a Stingray
for the 2007 OceansWide Summer Program. Check out the Stingray
by clicking on the link below and check out our website
this summer to see it in use in the Gulf of Maine.

LARGE or WORKING CLASS ROVs
At OceansWide it is our plan to have several different sized
ROVs. Small vehicles are excellent for many applications
and will be very useful to our educational needs, but our
long term plan is to procure a working class ROV similar
to those shown in the links below. These vehicles are capable
of carrying large collection devices and lifting capabilities
needed for gently collecting fragile scientific samples
and deploying large equipment such as low light time lapse
cameras needed to unobtrusively study creatures where they
live.
